To determine whether KFC is halal or not, one needs to depend on the KFC outlet. In most places of the world, the KFC franchise is not halal at all.
This is Because they do not use halal meat. The whole of the United States of America claims to have non-halal KFC branches.
Although there are rumors that certain areas with higher Muslim populations tend to have halal meat in their outlets, since they are not entirely certified for being halal and because the meat used in the KFC meals is taken from a common source, one cannot confirm whether KFC is halal in their location or not.
If you live in a Muslim country such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Pakistan, et cetera, you are pretty lucky because you can enjoy the tender, crispy chicken from KFC without the hazard of it being non-halal.
This is because the chicken supply is taken from Muslim slaughterhouses, and the products that KFC branches have do not contain any pork.
Is KFC haram?
The opposite of halal in Islam is haram. Haram things are those which are prohibited from eating for Muslims.
KFC is mostly haram all around the world. This is because they are not 100% certified halal in most countries.
It is better to stay on the safe side and go to an alternate halal restaurant instead of visiting KFC. Many Muslim KFC owners have had problems regarding KFC‘s halal policy.
A man in the US had to sue KFC for demanding him to serve non-halal KFC. This was quite bad because he owned 8 KFC stores and had to lose at least 80 workers if he changed his policy.
Even if you don’t order something with ham or pork in it, it is still considered haram because the chicken is not slaughtered in the Islamic way, or it has a threat of cross-contamination with haram items such as pork.
Therefore, unless you are at a KFC outlet in a Muslim country, you may not enjoy KFC at all.
Is KFC chicken halal?
Depending on the KFC outlet, the KFC chicken is halal and non-halal. It is important to note that chicken meat itself is not a non-halal product for Muslims in Islam. It is actually the way that the chicken is handled and slaughtered that makes it halal or non-halal. Most KFC outlets claim on their own that they do not provide halal chicken. Therefore KFC can only be trusted with halal policies if you get it from a Muslim country. The reason why KFC chicken is not halal is that it might be cross-contaminated with non-halal products such as pork or bacon, or it might not be slaughtered in the proper Islamic way that makes the chicken haram.
Is KFC popcorn chicken halal?
Depending on the outlet and the country that you purchased the KFC popcorn chicken from, explain whether it’s halal or not.
However, the chicken itself is not exempted in Islam. If the chicken used to make the popcorn chicken is not slaughtered in the Islamic way or if it is cross-contaminated with haram products such as ham or pork, then the popcorn chicken becomes non-halal as well.
If you are living in a non-Muslim country and you know that your KFC branch is not 100% certified halal, that means that the popcorn chicken would be non-halal as well.
Is KFC halal in USA?
It is pretty tragic that KFC is not clear about its halal policies in the United States. A replied comment via email from a spokesperson at KFC provided the statement as follows. “We recognize that many of our valued customers have specific dietary requirements associated with their religious beliefs. Unfortunately, we are not able to make religious claims such as halal or kosher about KFC products at this time”.
They take into consideration that there are different interpretations of these terms and that they cannot certify that in restaurant preparation and cooking, the meat itself follows religious guidelines.
This is eminent because the contact of non-halal with non-kosher food is problematic. The extent of non-halal products that KFC offers involves quite a lot of problems in the KFC stores in Chicago.
A man named Afzal went as far as suing the franchise because he was told that he could not serve halal buckets of chicken anymore.
He operates 8 KFC stores in the Chicago area, and he claims that he would lose his Muslim customers as well as as many as 80 workers who were Muslim because obviously, they could not handle non-halal products.
Other sources claimed that KFC sources chicken from halal and non-halal sources. And almost all the chicken is technically halal as most of the suppliers have a significant enough standard to maintain.
However, they prevent a franchise from trying to get to a competitive advantage. It does not allow them to advertise publicly that they offer halal chicken or obtain a halal certification which is, of course, useless.
Most people in the US that are Muslims avoid KFC altogether because of the rumors regarding the fact that whether KFC is halal or haram.
They claim that the chickens are not slaughtered in the proper Islamic way and that the utensils used to cook the meat are the same ones used to cook the pork.
Therefore it’s better to be safe than sorry. Nonetheless, since KFC does not have a halal certificate establishment in the US, their food cannot be considered halal anyway.
Is KFC chicken halal in USA?
Since KFC branches in the US claim for themselves that they are not certified halal and that they are not able to make religious claims such as halal or kosher about their KFC products, this means that the chicken used itself is not halal either.
In Islam, chicken is not generally non-halal meat. Muslims all around the world consume chicken regularly.
However, it becomes non-halal in two ways. The first is that the chicken is dead meat before it is slaughtered. This means that the chicken is already dead when stunned before it is slaughtered.
Muslims have a specific technique when slaughtering their animals to ensure that the meat from them is halal.
KFC in the US does not resolve to the Islamic way of slaughtering the chicken. This is why various products in KFC with chicken, such as the fried chicken bucket or the various chicken sandwiches nuggets and zingers, are all non-halal.
Other than that, the second way that chicken could be non-halal is when it is handled in a non-halal environment.
This means that the chicken is in contact with the same equipment and hands that handle non-halal products such as pork and bacon. This leads to cross-contamination and makes even halal things non-halal.
Is KFC halal in New York?
Amongst the various KFC branches in America, New York alone has 156 branches. But since KFC is generally not halal in the US, KFC in New York is non-halal as well.
If the KFC store is owned by a Muslim person and he claims that what he is offering is halal, then there might be a slight chance that the KFC is actually halal.
But that is rare, and since KFC does not have a 100% certified halal certificate, it cannot be trusted. Therefore amongst 156 branches in New York alone, none of them are certified halal.
Is kfc halal in Canada?
Sadly enough, KFC claims that they do not offer halal chicken in the restaurant. Although chicken itself is not a non-halal product in Islam, the way that it is slaughtered makes it non-halal, as does the cross-contamination by non-halal products such as bacon.
It is hard to find KFC outlets that serve halal meat in general. Even though there is a Muslim majority in various places in Canada, the KFC officials claim on separate social networking sites and forums such as Facebook and Twitter that KFC does not offer halal in the restaurant.
And that their restaurants are not halal certified. Recently, my ethos market announced three different KFC sites which were offering halal meat.
The KFC 645 Lansdowne Street West Peterborough Ontario branch, the KFC 999 upper Wentworth High Street Hamilton Ontario branch and the KFC hundred Bayshore Drive Ottawa Ontario branch.
Even though they claim that the chicken they use itself is halal, the handling and the care required while preparing the chicken and storing it can lead to cross-contamination because of the non-halal products there.
Nonetheless, it is still not confirmed whether these three branches in Canada provide halal KFC or not; therefore, it’s better to stay on the safe side and go for other halal restaurants instead.
Is KFC halal in the UK?
There are As many as 900+ KFC branches in the UK. And only around 130 of them claim that the KFC restaurants serve 100% halal-certified food.
It is essential to keep a check when visiting KFC in the UK because most of the branches do not provide halal-certified chicken.
And although KFC is popular amongst Muslims in the UK, many people don’t realize that all of the branches are not halal. The halal food authority has only certified 130 of the KFC branches in the UK as halal.
KFC UK ensures that the 130 halal branches serve certified halal food, which is a part of their commitment to maintaining the standards.
They aim to work closely with the halal food authority, and their halal restaurants are regularly checked. Therefore it is essential to look at the store separately for being halal or not and not just the franchise itself.
One KFC store may be halal, but the other one may not be. It is a safer option to call up or go to a specific store and ask them if they serve halal or not.
Another thing to be kept in mind is that, at times, the meat that they are provided with might be halal, but the way that they store and cook it may not be.
For instance, they may cook the halal meat on the same stove that they cook the bacon. At times the same region contains halal as well as non-halal KFC branches.
Is KFC halal London?
There are numerous KFC branches in the UK. However, all of them are not halal. It creates quite a confusion because some of the branches say that they have halal chicken when they actually don’t.
Very few KFCs in the UK are entirely halal certified. Others may be trying to keep it halal, but cross-contamination with non-halal products such as bacon when handled with the same equipment and the same hands results in the halal products becoming haram too.
In London, there are many KFC branches. Amongst the various branches in London are the London Bridge branch, as well as the KFC Borough High Street branch, the 128 Borough high Street branch and the SE1 1LB branch, which are 100% halal certified.
Other branches include the KFC London Walworth Road branch. The KFC London Earl’s Court Road branch, The KFC London Tower Hill branch, the KFC City of London branch, the KFC London Southampton Row Branch, the KFC Thornton Heath London Road branch and several others.
So the answer of the question muslims around the world have been asking, whether KFC is halal or haram boils down to mostly ‘no’. If only a certain KFC branch says it provides halal meat, you are 100% certain that you can eat at that branch if you’re a practicing muslim.
KFC in most of the branches don’t serve chicken slaughtered the halal way thus, most of the KFC branches aren’t halal.
