Do You Need a Membership for Safeway?

Safeway is a prominent supermarket with stores in many cities in the US. It also used to have stores in the UK, but these were sold to Morrisons in 2003.

The name Safeway came into being because the grocery operated on a cash-and-carry basis. This means that it did not offer credit as grocers traditionally had done before.

As the name suggests, it was the “safe way “to buy because a family could not get into debt via its grocery bills.

Safeway was founded by an American supermarket chain founded by Marion Barton Skaggs in April 1915 in Idaho state.

The chain is known for providing a variety of grocery items, food and general merchandise. You can even shop at Safeway’s online store and get their groceries delivered to you at your doorstep.

The plus point about Safeway is that you do not require a membership to shop there.

Unlike other leading grocery stores such as Costco and Wholesale Club, Safeway does not require its customers to own their Club card in order to shop at their store.

Safeway is 100% free, and it will never cost you money to shop there.

You can register your new Club card, however, with a free membership or start the process to set up your account at the Safeway website.

Although Safeway does not require you to have a membership to shop there, they still do facilitate a Safeway for U ^™ program, which caters to free customer loyalty by Albertson companies that allow the participants who are in the program- more specifically, members or individuals to receive weekly personalized deals on their groceries and earn points on all eligible prices as well as redeem rewards and discounts on their purchases. A pretty great deal, if I do say so myself.

Although it is clear that Safeway does not require its customers to own a Club card in order to shop at the stores, they do, however, recommend that the customers obtain their Club card if they are available in their area.

This is for the benefit of the customers themselves. This allows them to take advantage of deals and save their money on shopping trips. Thus it gives the best of both worlds.

It is quite common for various grocery stores to bring loyalty programs that cater to customers and help them save money on their purchases by gaining regular customers side-by-side.

Safeways loyalty program includes the Safeway Club card. This club card has been recently renamed to just for U rewards.

This loyalty card is for Safeway shoppers, and it enables the customers to save up to 20% on their groceries and homeware items.

And the application process for a Safeway Club card is relatively easy. The benefits of a Club card are numerous.

Loyal customers can get sale prices on various products and even gain points every time they shop.

There is also a coupon center located in the saving section at Safeway.com. This exciting feature exists in order to allow loyal Safeway shoppers to claim Club card points.

For this, the cardholders have to swipe or scan their card each time they purchase at the Safeway store near them as well as any they choose to go to.
