DoorDash Driving and Tips
You can work as a Dasher for Doordash and make extra bucks as a part-time job. As a dasher, you must always complete orders once you accept them.
Failing to deliver an accepted order could even mean losing your job. You should also keep an eye on your ratings.
Good ratings indicate more orders, and more orders mean more money. On DoorDash, you can also get better pay during peak hours like dinner.
So if you work during those hours, you can make more than usual.
If you are wondering how the pay structure of DoorDash drivers works, then we have got all the answers for you!
The pay structure for DoorDash is very simple!
- Most orders from the customers of DoorDash guarantees about $0.95/mile
- Add $2 extra in case it is required by the driver to place the order (in person, by default)
- Both of the above conditions guarantee your pay
- Subtract the tip provided by the customer from your guaranteed pay value
- The driver gets the difference paid as the delivery fee – given the payment value is negative or below $1, pay $1
The amount you get paid is directly influenced by the tip that customer pays. The more money the user pays, the more money DOORDASH makes.
However, DoorDash can pretty much do this legally because as promised, DoorDash pays 100% of the TIP to the driver.
Please note that DoorDash actually pays YOU less if the customer gives more tips.
The “guaranteed” amount does not reflect the customer tip upfront. I figured when a 2nd or 3rd order is sent to me while I’m already doing a delivery, the reported customer tip amounts are shown to be more precisely.

How to get more orders on DoorDash?
So, you’ve finally decided to work part-time or full-time as a DoorDash driver and make money.
But it’s your first time, and you don’t know how the system works or how you can get more orders on DoorDash or what sort of orders you should accept or reject.
Don’t worry; we got you covered!
Here are ways to get more orders on DoorDash.
Accept Every Order
That’s right. If you’re new to DoorDash driving. Just dive right into it and start delivering orders.
Accept every order you get to familiarise yourself with the environment, your zone and how the system works.
As a new driver, accept every order you get to know your zone. This will make you familiarize yourself with the roads, traffics, etc.
Know where your area is!
Create your own zone. By accepting all your first 100 orders, you will get to know where many of the orders come from.
You can create that specific area that receives the most orders as your own zone with that information.
This zone will be the perfect spot for you to wait in as you standby for another order to come in.
Avoid texting customers!
Do not text the customer unless there is a problem. They have live updates from DoorDash, and it shows them when we arrive at the restaurant and when we arrive at their house.
Texting customers without any reason can be very disrespectful and annoying. You do not have to text or talk to them unless there is any problem.
If the customer feels annoyed, they may leave a bad rating, affecting your rating and the orders you get.
How to get multiple orders on DoorDash?
Avoid accepting late orders!
Don’t accept late orders, or the customers will leave a bad or negative review.
While this probably won’t affect your pay, it will affect your rating and to avoid that, you simply have to reject late offers. Better safe than sorry, right?
Keep your Wi-Fi off while dashing!
Turn your Wi-Fi OFF when dashing unless you know you want to use it. Suppose you leave it on and inadvertently pass a place with a hotspot that you’ve hooked up to before.
While you’re hovering around it with a super weak signal. It can cause you to “miss” orders from DoorDash.
For new drivers:
Don’t panic or get flustered if you get stacked orders. Many orders at once can make new drivers flustered and confused as to what to do with them.
But don’t let this get to you. DoorDash adds way more than enough time for you to accept and deliver three stacked orders, maybe even four at once.
Fill up on gas!!
Don’t forget to fill up on gas after the end of your last dash running low on gas. You don’t want to be running low on gas during your dash because there’s nothing worse than needing to pause mid-dash to fill up, wasting precious time that could be better spent making money.
If you run low on gas and your order gets late, you’d end up with a bad rating that could affect your future orders, so be careful.
Take care of your health!
Stay hydrated and eat on longer dashes. Yes, making money is essential. But you know what they say, health is money.
Take care of yourself, and be careful with your dashes. Make sure to rest between longer dashes and hydrate as well.
Don’t let a side-job ruin your health.
Why am I not getting more orders on DoorDash?
Find zones with more orders. You may not be getting new orders because there are already enough dashers in the zone that you’re signed up for.
Once you get used to using DoorDash, start looking for more zones. Do not just stick to one zone and look for new zones that would potentially receive many orders.
Drive around and look for places that accept many orders and then stay there while you Door-Dash there. This way, you can rotate among a few zones every other day while ensuring you receive enough orders.
Maintain your ratings!
Maintain your ratings by fulfilling the orders on time and ensuring that the customer is not dissatisfied in any way.
Maintaining good ratings is essential to get bonuses. It increases the chances of more orders coming in. This is a good strategy that is often ignored by most dashers.
How to get DoorDash orders faster?
Do not forget to take advantage of the peak hours. Peak hour is the time when most restaurants are at their busiest.
This is usually lunch-time or dinner-time. At peak hours, more deliveries come in, and DoorDash naturally needs more dashers to make deliveries.
Working in peak hours has its own perks as dashers can also get bonuses and more tips during peak hours.
Don’t schedule for dashing too late!
It’s more likely that fewer orders come in after peak hours and dinner time. Manage your schedule so that it matches the time when DoorDash gets the most order so you can make sure that you make most of the time that you’re putting in dashing.
Do I have to be at a hotspot to get DoorDash orders?
You can receive orders even if you’re sitting at home, but you have to make sure that it is the area that you’re dashing in.
You have to be in the area that you’re signed in for to receive orders for that particular area. You can also work in free zones, i.e. any site that requires more dashers.
Do you get more orders if you schedule on DoorDash?
No, it does not matter. You can sign up for a shift and keep changing the time. For example, let’s say you click dash now. It tells you to check that you have everything ready, but you can just click on the X button to change the time.
Then it will take you to the home page, and from there you can change the time just the way you want.
That’s all we’ve found for now on how to get more orders while door dashing. Stay tuned for more!
